Airlines and airports have been informed to board and allow Nigerians returning home for the holidays season with expired Nigerian passports.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria in her efforts to make life easy for Nigerians in diaspora has approved that all Nigerians returning home can be admitted into the country with their expired Nigerian passports,” said MC Dike, Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration in a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The letter was copied to All Head of Missions, AII lmmigration Attaches, All lnternational Airport Comptrollers, All Entry and Exit points and All Airlines.
The contents of the letter dated 22nd of December, 2023 read as follows:
“Please accept the compliments and regards of the Comptroller General of immigration Service.
2. I am directed to refer to the above subject matter and to inform you that, the Federal Government of Nigeria in her efforts to make life easy for Nigerians in diaspora has approved that all Nigerians returning home can be admitted into the country with their expired Nigerian passports.
3. I am further directed to inform airlines coming to Nigeria to allow holders of Nigeria expired passport to board without let.
4. ln furtherance to the foregoing, all Nigeria Embassies and High Commissions are advised to give this directive the highest publicity it deserves.
5. Consequent upon the above, all entry/exit points are by the copy of this letter directed to open a help desk for all Nigerians in this category and directed same to passport offices where their passports will be reissued within a maximum of two (2) weeks.
6. Once more please accept as always, the compliments and high regards of the Comptroller General of lmmigration Service.
