Franklin County certifies over 200 for March 19 Primary Elections

Ohio Franklin County has certified over 200 candidates of both the Democratic Party and Republican Party to run for the March 19, 2024, party primaries, including incumbent Congresswoman Joyce Beaty, Congressman Mike Carey, Ohio State Representatives Ismail Mohamed, Latya M Humphrey, and Dontavius Jarrells.

Current Ohio State Representative Adam Miler (D) will be running for the 15th Congressional District with a Columbus based nonprofit executive Zarqa Z Abid.

Ohio House Districts 1 to 9 are in the primaries, with Democrats District 6 having seven contestants including Kawther Musa, Elijah Williams, Patrick Barnacle, Christine Cockley, Adhanet Kifle, Eli Bohnert, and Brandon Barcus.  

There will be primaries for the Court of Appeals 10th District, Court of Common Pleas (General Division) and (Domestic Relations Division), County Prosecuting Attorney, and County Central Committees.

Meanwhile, Governor DeWine has announced special election dates for the 6th Congressional District to fill the district’s upcoming vacancy. The election schedule will include a partisan primary occurring on March 19th, 2024, and the general election occurring on June 11th, 2024.

Rep. Bill Johnson formally communicated with the Governor his resignation effective January 21st, 2024, at the end of the day. The formal communication of the resignation allows the Governor to call the special election and issue a Writ of Election.
