Columbus City Council President Shannon G. Hardin has expressed “strong” desire to run for the position of Mayor of Columbus.
“I am strongly considering a campaign for Mayor of Columbus,” President Shannon Hardin announced during a fundraiser on Monday, July 13, 2026, hosted by a diverse committee of civic leaders.
“This is not my campaign. This is our campaign for the future of our city.”
Hardin shared that his mother worked as the receptionist at Columbus City Hall when he was born, adding that as a child, he often accompanied her to work, playing beneath her desk while watching public servants carry out the work of city government.
Those early experiences, he said, taught him that City Hall should belonged to everyone.
“If City Hall is the people’s house, then council chambers are the people’s living room.”
