Ohio Military and Overseas Absentee Voting for 2026 Primary Election begins March 20
The Ohio State May 5, 2026, Primary Election Absentee Voting for military and oversees’ Ohioans will begin on Friday, March 20, 2026.
Early in-person voting will begin April 7, 2026, and to end May 3, 2026.
Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose released the 2026 Voter Information Toolkit to help educate voters about recent changes to Ohio’s election laws and called on community leaders across the state to help share the information.
“This toolkit equips local leaders with the facts and resources they need to help their communities approach our upcoming elections with confidence,” said Secretary LaRose.
Key 2026 Primary Election Dates:
- March 20: Military and Overseas absentee voting begins
- April 6: Voter registration deadline
- April 7: Early in-person voting begins
- May 3: Early in-person voting ends
- May 5: Primary Election Day. Polls open 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Absentee ballots must be received by your county board of elections by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.
“Ohio has a strong record of conducting transparent, accessible elections. When the law changes, it’s our shared responsibility to ensure voters have accurate, up-to-date information so they can successfully make their voice heard.”
The toolkit is part of a broader voter education effort by the Secretary of State’s office and Ohio’s 88 county boards of elections, including public service announcements and outreach initiatives such as Grads Vote.
“Ohio offers three convenient ways to vote,” LaRose added.
“If you plan to vote absentee, be sure to request your ballot early and return it promptly so it arrives at your county board of elections by Election Day.”
The office distributed the toolkit to hundreds of local leaders and community organizations statewide, encouraging them to participate in the public information campaign and help keep voters informed ahead of the May primary.
