Ohio Governor invokes health emergency in postponing March 17 elections

• Declares Health Emergency 

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has said Ohio Health Director Amy Acton will order the polls closed on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 as a health emergency.

“During this time when we face an unprecedented public health crisis, to conduct an election tomorrow would would force poll workers and voters to place themselves at a unacceptable health risk of contracting coronavirus” said Governor Mike Dewine.

“As such, Health Director Dr. Amy Acton will order the polls closed as a health emergency.”He added that, “While the polls will be closed (Tuesday, March 17), Secretary of State Frank LaRose will seek a remedy through the courts to extend voting options so that every voter who wants to vote will be granted that opportunity.”

”During this time when we face an unprecedented public health crisis, to conduct an election tomorrow would force poll workers and voters to place themselves at an unacceptable health risk of contracting corona virus.”

A Franklin County judge denied a request to postpone the elections till June 2, 2020.
