In a groundbreaking moment for the cycling world, Eritrean rider Biniam Girmay has solidified his place in history as the first black rider to win multiple stages at the prestigious 2024 Tour de France. After Stage 15, Girmay remains first in the point classification, 363 further cementing his status as a trailblazer in this Tour of France.
The 154 riders who started Stage 15 faced a grueling 197.7 km route from Loudenvielle to Plateau de Beille, with a series of intense attacks and breakaway attempts throughout the race. Despite the challenges, Girmay continue showcasing his sprinting prowess by winning the intermediate sprint at Marignac, demonstrating his versatility as a rider.
Despite finishing third in the sprint, Girmay’s performance in Stage 15 was still impressive enough for him to maintain the green jersey for Stages 16 and 17. With a total of 367 points, he continues to hold the top position in the points classification.
