COTA Waives Fares for Cold Weather Advisory Jan. 19 & 20

The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) will suspend fares system-wide Monday, January 19 and Tuesday, January 20 due to the National Weather Service Forecast Office issuing a Cold Weather Advisory in Franklin County.

“COTA offers this community service to encourage those who need to reduce exposure to extreme temperatures to have a safe and reliable means of transportation to get to facilities that will provide relief, including warming and cooling centers, libraries, recreation centers, and other places of shelter,” said Jeff Pullin, Director, Public & Media Relations.

“Monday is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which means COTA will operate on a Holiday schedule. The no-fare policy will be in effect for the entire service day on the dates listed above. The policy includes all transit vehicles, including fixed route (buses), COTA Mainstream, and COTA//Plus.”

COTA suspends fares on all transit vehicles on all routes in the event the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Wilmington, Ohio, issues either a cold weather advisory or an extreme cold warning.

A Cold Weather Advisory is issued when seasonably cold air temperatures or wind chill values are expected or occurring. An advisory is generally issued when the air temperature and/or wind chill is -10°F or less.
