Nigeria approves renewal of expired passports at airports for Nigerians in Diaspora

  • Establishes 4 front offices at Lagos, Kano, Abuja, and Port Harcourt airports

The Federal Minister of Interior of Nigeria Rauf Aregbesola has announced that Nigerians in the diaspora who arrive in the country on expired passports can have their passports renewed immediately at the airports.

“Nigerians who arrive in the country on expired passports can have their passports renewed immediately,” said Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola in a repost of the announcement by Nigerian Ambassador to Greece Opunimi Akinkugbe on her LinkedIn handle.

Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola gave the assurance at a recent “excellent webinar organized by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission NIDCOM.”

He said the establishment of front offices have been approved at four international airports:

  • Lagos
  • Kano
  • Abuja
  • Port Harcourt

“It is in this regard that the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) recently granted a waiver for Nigerians with expired passports desirous of coming to Nigeria, to do so without fear of harassment by airlines,” said Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola.

However, no commencement date was contained in the statement.
