Columbus, Ohio John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) will add its first-ever nonstop service to Frankfurt International Airport, Germany, starting in May 2027. Lufthansa, Germany’s major airline, and the airline’s executives were in Ohio to announce that the connection between the two airports will open a new international gateway for Central Ohio.
The flights will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with 287 seats across business, premium economy, and economy cabins.
Flights depart Columbus at 4:20 p.m. and arrive in Frankfurt at 6:15 a.m. the following day. Frankfurt offers connections throughout Europe and beyond.
According to the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, the route will continue to build on Ohio’s strong economic ties with Germany. More than 750 German-owned businesses operate in Ohio, supporting about 41,000 jobs statewide.
Columbus Regional Airport Authority also reports that the new route will be Ohio’s first nonstop flight to Germany, giving travelers statewide a direct departure option from Columbus. Lufthansa airline also added that it will be the city’s first-ever nonstop connection to Europe.
Lufthansa Group is Europe’s largest airline group by revenue, employs more than 100,000 people worldwide, and operates more than 400 weekly flights from the United States to its European hubs, including Frankfurt, Munich, Brussels, Vienna, and Zurich, connecting travelers to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
Mayor Ginther welcomed the connection, saying it will “open up Columbus to the world.” Governor DeWine said it could strengthen economic, research, cultural, and educational exchanges. Lufthansa Group and JobsOhio executives emphasized the route’s potential to improve global connectivity, attract investment, and support job creation.
The key test will be whether the new connection generates lasting economic opportunities for Ohio businesses, workers, and residents
