2026 Arnold Sports Festival Kicks Off in Columbus

By Okon Ekpenyong

The 2026 Arnold Sports Festival returns this weekend and promises to continue its tradition of transforming the Columbus Convention Center into a fun, wild, spectator-friendly venue and a vibrant four-day celebration of fitness for all ages.

Despite travel restrictions placed on some competitors from countries under Trump’s administration travel ban, strong production, fan engagement, and storytelling are sure to keep energy high in this weekend’s races,” a fan says.

The 50th Arnold Classic is named after former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who himself once dazzled in some of the most recognizable bodybuilding competitions and was a fierce competitor. Events like Mr. World, Mr. Universe, and Mr. Olympia, which have made him an icon of bodybuilding to this day, he is also a long-time actor who has appeared in movies such as The Terminator, Predator, Total Recall, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, True Lies, Commando, Conan the Barbarian, and The Running Man.

Organizers say that this weekend’s Arnold will attract more than 100,000 spectators, demonstrating the event’s longstanding commitment to wellness, nutrition, and fitness. And this gathering emphasizes that improving life expectancy goes beyond physical exercise; it also involves harmony among mind, body, and spirit, along with discipline.

The classic kickoff today, March 5, in Columbus, runs through Sunday, March 8, and welcomes local, national, and international competitors to one of the largest multi-sport events worldwide. Athletes ranging from rising amateurs to elite professionals in strength, bodybuilding, combat sports, dance, and fitness will compete for a chance to earn the division champion title, the official Arnold Classic trophy, prize money, podium placings, Olympia qualification, and much more. For others, just a chance to compete with the greats will put them on a national stage, attract sponsorship attention, and earn industry recognition.

Competitors train hard, adhere to a strict diet, work hard on their time and physique, test their bodies to the limit, and find multiple ways to ensure their routine receives the largest ovation and recognition before this week.

This year’s festival showcases its diversity; for example, the USA Weightlifting events are from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm at the Union Station Ballroom, and the Arnold Amateur bodybuilding competition runs from 8 am to 6 pm in the Battelle Grand. The IFBB Pro League meet & greet will take place from 7 pm to 9 pm in the Aminah Robinson Ballroom at the Hilton Columbus Downtown, giving fans a chance to meet some of the sport’s biggest names.

To accommodate expected visitors, the Arnold Downtown Shuttle will connect major hotels with the Greater Columbus Convention Center. It’s wheelchair-accessible and easy to identify. An Express Shuttle will also operate between the Ohio Expo Center and the Convention Center. Parking is available at the Ohio Expo Center and various garages near the Convention Center and Arena District.

The Arnold Expo returns as the heart of the festival, featuring hundreds of booths showcasing the latest in sports gear, apparel, and nutrition, along with live demonstrations. Expo hours run March 6–8 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
