Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik have announced that $65.6 million in funding is now available through the Welcome Home Ohio program to help improve access to housing in more communities across the state.
“Welcome Home Ohio helps put the dream of home ownership in reach for more Ohioans by giving communities the tools to remove barriers, revitalize neighborhoods, and create new opportunities for families,” said Governor DeWine. “This new round of funding will help even more Ohioans achieve the stability and pride that come with having a home they can call their own.”
The latest round of the program, passed by the Ohio General Assembly in the state’s biennium budget bill and signed by Governor DeWine earlier this year, will provide $22.8 million in grants for both the purchase of qualifying residential properties at foreclosure sales and for the rehabilitation or construction of homes.
Additionally, $20 million in nonrefundable tax credits is available through the biennium for qualifying rehabs and new construction once a property is sold.
Since its inception, Welcome Home Ohio has awarded nearly $60 million to support the creation of 481 homes in 26 counties. The program is administered by the Department of Development.
“Creating safe, affordable housing is one of the most important investments we can make in Ohio’s future,” said Director Mihalik. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to once again help our local partners reach even more of our neighbors who deserve a fair shot at homeownership.”
The application period for the grants is open now through 5 p.m. Jan. 16, 2026. Tax credit applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until funds are expended.
