Columbus, Ohio-based Ghanaian American fine Artist Sam Obodae recently presented a portrait of Congresswoman Joyce Beatty to her on May 8, 2025, at the King Art Complex for consistently promoting art among youths.
Obodae, who dominantly paints portraits and vibrant African semi abstracts told the New Americans magazine that “the 30×35 inches painting of Congresswoman Joyce Beatty was done due to her love for Art and her mission to empower the youth in the communities.”

Yearly, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty invites high school artists who reside in Ohio’s Third Congressional District to participate in the Congressional Art Competition.
This annual nationwide contest showcases the creativity of young artists, and the grand prize winner will have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for an entire year—plus receive a complimentary trip to Washington, D.C.
Submissions for 2025 which must be physically delivered to the District Office closed on Friday, April 11, 2025.
Each spring, a nationwide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Artistic Discovery Contest is an opportunity to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation, as well as in our Congressional District.
