Members and friends of Ibada ya Kiswahili (IYK) Columbus came together on Sunday, June 1, 2025, to celebrate 16th anniversary, marking a significant milestone of worship, community, and service.
The celebration began with a worship service led by Pastor Rogers Mtui, who preached from John 17:20–27. His sermon emphasized the importance of unity, forgiveness, and loving one another.
Pastor Mtui encouraged the congregation to focus on resolving issues rather than blaming people. He also reminded everyone that each person is unique and that this uniqueness should be embraced and brought into the unity of the church. “Everyone is unique,” he said, “and we need to bring that uniqueness into our unity.”
Following the service, the community gathered for a festive after-mass celebration featuring Tanzanian and other African delicacies, providing a joyful space for fellowship and cultural connection.

Joel Wildmurth, President of the church council at Gethsemane Lutheran Church—an institution that has stood by IYK since its founding—congratulated the community on its 16-year journey. He affirmed Gethsemane’s ongoing support and commitment to building the body of Christ alongside IYK.
IYK Secretary Jackson Lyimo gave a brief reflection on the history of the church, expressing deep appreciation to all who have supported IYK over the years. His message underscored the importance of continued collaboration and appreciation for the journey so far.
The IYK former Pastor Ipyana Mwakabonga also congratulated the congregation, encouraging continued growth through unity, love, and patience. He emphasized that these values are vital to sustaining the strength and spirit of the IYK community.

Special recognition was given to dedicated leaders who have served IYK throughout its journey, including former president Immanuel Lyatuu, former treasurer Godfrey Moshy, and Secretary Jackson Lyimo. Their efforts and leadership over the past 16 years were deeply appreciated.
In closing, current IYK president Joyce Mmary-Mchao thanked the community for their continued support. She called for ongoing togetherness and reminded everyone that IYK is a welcoming space for all—especially Swahili speakers, but also open to anyone seeking fellowship and faith in community.
