OHIO BLACK EXPO Riverfront Culture Fest Holds May 25-26

Posted by: New Americans Magazine , May 22, 2025

The OHIO BLACK EXPO Riverfront Culture Fest will be held on Saturday, May 24th to Sunday, May 25th at Riverfront, Columbus, Ohio.

The weekend event is expected to be “packed with an amazing lineup of family fun that visitors won’t want to miss,” according to the organizers.

Celebrating the past, appreciating the present, and looking forward to the future, this event promises to be an unforgettable weekend of entertainment, education, food, family, and fun.

“We couldn’t be more excited about the depth of talent and activities that we are able to of er at such a low cost.

Support for this festival helps us to continue and further our mission to improve the quality of life for Ohio residents,” added President and CEO, Sherri Hamilton.

Saturday, May 24 will be the annual Black Expollence Kickoff Parade, and it will be epic! Marching to the beat of drumlines and the sounds of local marching bands, dance teams, and community organizations, the parade will showcase local youth groups and set the tone for a fun-filled weekend.

The D9 HBCU Unity Zone hosts the HBCU College Fair from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm, supported by Central State University. Students will experience the HBCU community and the opportunity to connect with current students and representatives from historically Black colleges and universities, and other local colleges.

Filled with two exciting days of entertainment, the Expo will feature musical genres featuring powerful live performances. Headlining on Saturday night will be multi-hyphenate rapper-actor-producer-author-activist Common, who is just a Tony away from achieving EGOT status, having already earned Emmy, Grammy, and Oscar awards.

Common’s current album, The Auditorium Vol. 1, is a collaboration with Pete Rock, whose signature style has created chart-topping and award-winning hits for a number of household names, making him one of the most influential and innovative producers in the history of popular music.

Also on Saturday, R&B singer-songwriter Teedra Moses, who is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her breakout album, Complex Simplicity, will take the stage. Her recent collabs and appearance on NPR’s Tiny Desk have given her a whole new generation of fans.

Sunday’s headliner, British R&B singer-songwriter Marsha Ambrosius, recently dropped her album, Casablanco, produced entirely by Dr. Dre, a first for the legendary West Coast producer.

Speaking of legends, Hip-hop legends Talib Kweli & J. Rawls’ recent collaborative album, The Confidence of Knowing, is a project worth adding to your playlist. The Legendary Mix Master Ice from UTFO, a staple at the festival, will also perform.

What additional things can attendees expect? Approximately 160 local performers, DJs, and hosts, 490 youth marching and performing in the parade, over 100 small businesses, and 20 performers and 5 businesses from our sister city, Accra in Ghana, West Africa. In addition, more than 100 vendors and food trucks, free health screenings, mini Yoga Fest with Black yogis from all over Ohio, line dance classes on both days, and more!

Tickets are available now for a discounted rate. Children 10 and under are free. For additional information regarding weekend events or to purchase tickets, visit ohioblackexpo.com. It’s going to be an unforgettable weekend!
