The Columbus Future Soccer Stars Academy, FSSA has opened its first camp on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Helsel Park, 3205 S Hamilton Road on the east side Columbus, Ohio with almost 16 children being part of the opening. The second camp will open on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Huy Road Field, 1385 Piedmont Road, Columbus, Ohio on the north side.

Training at the east side camp has been scheduled for Monday and Wednesday while it is Tuesday and Thursday on the north side.  

The history-making kids at the camp opening, mostly students from elementary and middle schools were distributed into three groups and taught basic skill of soccer by coaches who were former professional soccer players.

“We are not playing to win, we want to equip the kids with skill so that even if they don’t play at the professional level, they would like to play for the rest of their lives. Sports is a lifestyle. Winning will come but we want to make sure they develop their skills,” said President/CEO of FSSA Ishmail Mintah.

“The registration is opened throughout the season. The registration fee is $150 for three months. We hope to develop the kids and put them in the league to compete for exposure.”

Oliver, father of a 7 year old son in the academy said “my son told me he wanted to play soccer. He was excited when it was announced in the church that a soccer academy is starting.”

Also, Madab who is the father of 8 year old son said, “I want him to get engaged in some other things apart from being on the telephone and sitting in the house.”

Future Soccer Stars Academy aims to provide low-income families and at-risk kids with an alternative path through soccer, developing future stars who earn college scholarships, excel as student-athletes, and lead healthy lifestyles.
