Community members, local leaders, and supporters gathered on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 to celebrate the official launch of Dorothy Hassan’s campaign for Hilliard City Council. The event, held at Norwich Township Safety Services Building, drew an enthusiastic crowd and set a powerful tone for the months ahead.
Dorothy, who is the first Black American Muslim to be on the ballot for Hilliard City Council, shared her vision for a stronger, more connected Hilliard — one where every resident’s voice is heard and thoughtful leadership drives real results. If elected, she would make history as the first Black woman to serve on Hilliard City Council.
In her remarks, Dorothy highlighted her deep roots in the community and her proven record of service. She emphasized the importance of listening to residents, prioritizing transparency, and ensuring that Hilliard remains a welcoming place for all.
“Hilliard is at a historic point,” Dorothy said. “This is our first Democratic primary–this is the first time we have this many people who want to represent your voice.”
“I’m running because I believe Hilliard’s best days are ahead of us. My vision for Hilliard is a place where we can all call home…we have to make sure that we continue to build that infrastructure and make sure that community is at the heart of it all.”
Attendees also heard from various community leaders, who praised Dorothy’s dedication, integrity, and commitment to the people of Hilliard.
Dorothy’s campaign will continue to focus on building a broad, grassroots coalition rooted in community values and responsive leadership. The primary election for Hilliard City Council will take place on May 6, 2025.
