Three days after being nominated as Ohio Lt. Governor, the Ohio State General Assembly, the Senate and House of Representatives, has confirmed Jim Tressel as Lt Governor to Governor Mike DeWine.
On Monday, February 10, 2025, Governor Mike DeWine nominated former Ohio State University Football Coach Jim Tressel to serve as his lieutenant governor.
Tressel has now replaced Jon Husted, who served as lieutenant governor until Governor DeWine appointed him to the U.S. Senate to replace JD Vance, who became Vice President to President Donald Trump.
Tressel most recently served as the president of Youngstown State University before retiring in 2023. Tressel also served 15 years as the head coach of Youngstown State University’s football team before becoming head football coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes for 10 seasons. After leaving Ohio State, he served as executive vice president for student success at the University of Akron.
Governor DeWine said that Tressel’s background in education, workforce development, and economic development played a large role in his decision to ask him to take on the lieutenant governor role.
Reacting to the confirmation, the Ohio Chamber “congratulated Jim Tressel for his confirmation by the Ohio House and Senate as our state’s new lieutenant governor. We know that in this role, Lt. Gov. Tressel will continue his work to strengthen Ohio’s economy through workforce and education development, issues that he has long championed. We look forward to collaborating with him to make Ohio the best state in which to live, work and do business.”
