The Trump administration’s intensified immigration enforcement created widespread anxiety among Bhutanese migrants, particularly those without permanent legal status. According to Kuensel Online, communities with significant Bhutanese populations—such as Jackson Heights, New York—witnessed increased immigration raids and document checks. This climate of fear led many to avoid public spaces and social gatherings, fearing detention and deportation.

Additionally, the suspension of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program further disrupted the Bhutanese community, halting family reunification efforts.
