Preparations for the Midwest Veterans Football Tournament (MWVT) have ramped up, according to the host team, Columbus Veterans Soccer Club. For the first time, Columbus was selected to host the 2025 edition, scheduled from May 23 to May 25, for what has been reputed as the largest Cameroonian football festival in the Midwestern United States.
The local community is buzzing with anticipation as over a dozen teams will fly into Columbus for this grand football (soccer) event.

According to Columbus Veterans officials, the organizational committees formed weeks ago have been actively executing their assigned tasks. One key committee, the Media Committee, is gearing up for an extensive mainstream and social media campaign. Its members, comprising innovative thinkers, have been brainstorming and meticulously designing creative MWVT promotional materials.
“We aim to maximize the MWVT media campaign’s reach. On the tournament days, the public can expect real-time updates via social media, the tournament’s website, and its official Facebook page,” Tanyi Nkwo, head of the Media Committee, stated in one of the committee’s weekly update meetings.
He added, “Local reporters and bloggers will cover the event, and we’re ensuring they have all the necessary information ahead of time.”
Finjap Evaritus, aka Capo, a prominent Media Committee member and former President of Columbus Veterans Soccer Club, highlighted the committee’s efforts to keep all participating teams involved in MWVT promotions. Capo constantly communicates with the teams to ensure they are well represented in our promotional and communication materials.
Columbus Veterans Soccer Club President Valentine Forcha expressed evident satisfaction with the progress made by various organizational committees at the local level, instilling a sense of reassurance and confidence in the event’s success, though work is ongoing.
Meanwhile, excitement continues to build among football-loving Cameroonians in Columbus as the MWVT approaches.
“I’m a huge football fan and a supporter of Columbus Veterans FC, and I can’t wait for this highly anticipated tournament,” said Emelda, a Columbus resident of Cameroonian descent.
Another enthusiast, Rawlings, a budding football analyst, described MWVT as a much-needed event. “It’s been a while since I watched a live tournament with multiple teams competing—I’m looking forward to some quality play,” he remarked.
Columbus will also host the National Veterans Tournament (NVT) in August 2025. “The MWVT will serve as a thrilling preview of an even bigger and more spectacular event that we’re preparing for the entire United States in 2025,” Forcha had told this writer.
As Columbus prepares to come alive with football, sideline entertainment, and business opportunities in May 2025, the Columbus Veterans Soccer Club President and some key club leaders will appear on Apex 1 Radio on Saturday, February 8, 2025. The special edition of “Apex Snapshot” will air at 11 AM Eastern Time on www.apex1radio.com to provide more information on this year’s MWVT.
