Following the United States Supreme Court final adjudication of the status of TikTok entertainment app in the country, the management of the platform has switched off the operations before morning of Sunday, January 19, 2025. However, operations were returned to normal at noon of Sunday, January 19, after elected President Donald Trump posted on social media of his intention to allow for more time for negotiations on TikTok operations in America.

“Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now,” a message pinned to the TikTok platform said.
“A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now.”
“We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!”
By noon on Sunday, January 19, 2025, TikTok switched on the app after receiving assurances from elected President Donald Trump to issue an executive order extending the deadline for turning the operations of the app to American owned.

“Welcome back!” TikTok announced to its American users.
“Thanks for your patience and support. As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S.!
“You can continue to create, share, and discover all the things you love on TikTok.”
According to CNN, “A bipartisan law, signed by Biden in April, requires TikTok to sell to American buyers by Sunday or face a ban in the United States. The Supreme Court earlier in the day allowed the controversial ban to stand.
The Biden administration has made clear it would leave enforcement of the ban to President-elect Donald Trump, who will be inaugurated on Monday, and a White House official reiterated Friday night that its position on the matter has been sufficiently clear.
In its opinion, the Supreme Court acknowledged that for 170 million Americans TikTok offers “a distinctive and expansive outlet for expression, means of engagement, and source of community.”
But the court said, Congress was focused on national security concerns and that, the court said, was a deciding factor in how it weighed the case.
“Congress has determined that divestiture is necessary to address its well-supported national security concerns regarding TikTok’s data collection practices and relationship with a foreign adversary,” the court wrote.
