The immediate past President/CEO of Columbus Chambers of Commerce Don DePerro has passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025, according to the new President/CEO Derrick R. Clay in a message to all members of the Chamber. No details have yet been released about the death.

“Dear Chamber Member, It is with profound sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Don DePerro, our former President & CEO. Don was a visionary leader whose passion and dedication profoundly shaped the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and the greater Columbus Region,” said President/CEO Derrick Clay who just assumed office on Tuesday, January 7. 2025.

“During his tenure, Don spearheaded transformative initiatives that strengthened the Chamber’s mission and championed economic growth for our business community. His ability to bring people together, advocate for businesses, and lead with integrity left an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire us all.”

“On a personal level, Don’s unwavering commitment, generosity, and faith were hallmarks of his character. He was a mentor and friend to many, and his impact extended far beyond the Chamber, touching countless lives in our region.”

Derrik said “As we mourn this significant loss, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Don’s family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him. We will share details about arrangements or opportunities to honor Don’s memory as they become available.”

Also, in praise of Don DePerro on his first day in office, Derrik has thanked “Don DePerro for your leadership the past nine years. It has been a pleasure to work and learn from you!”

Incidentally, Don DePerro, while looking forward to attending the Annual Meeting of Columbus Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, invited members to “Join US and say goodbye to me.”

Though stating that he was not listed as a Speaker at the Annual Meeting, Don DePerro posted that “I am not, and have not been, listed as a speaker for our 2025 Annual Meeting. However, I will be. I will, with deeply mixed emotions, be saying goodbye to our tremendous Columbus Region business community. I Love You all! I do. Join US and say goodbye to me. Thank you. – Don”
