In 2022, GalaxyCon Columbus made its debut at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Since then, it has become a three-day festival, bringing together fans of comic books, pop culture, sci-fi, fantasy, anime, gaming, and cosplay. On December 6-8, the Convention Center again turned into a Hollywood movie studio, leaving fans in their seats and wanting more. GalaxyCon started 18 years ago. Today, it operates in six cities: Raleigh in North Carolina, Richmond in Virginia, Oklahoma City, San Jose in California, and Des Moines in Iowa.
At this year’s event, fans entering the convention center found themselves in a lively and exciting environment. The exhibition hall was filled with opportunities for discovery, featuring many exhibitor booths, artist alleys, and interactive experiences. The attendees were of diverse ages and backgrounds gathering to celebrate their passion for pop culture. This vibrant event fostered a sense of community and belonging among participants. Highlighting the occasion were special guests, including fan favorites like Hayden Christensen from Star Wars, Kiefer Sutherland from 24, and the renowned musician “Weird Al” Yankovic, making the celebration even more memorable.
“Attending my first Galaxycon was one of the highlights of my year. As a long-time comics fan and Star Wars enthusiast, I felt that the event exceeded my expectations. Seeing people from diverse backgrounds come together to celebrate their passions for animals, comics, sci-fi, and gaming was heartwarming. In a time of division, the sense of unity among attendees was a powerful reminder of the love that can exist between people when they focus on common interests. This experience is something I will cherish forever,” Hill of Columbus said.
Throughout the convention, fans could immerse themselves in various activities at GalaxyCon Columbus. From attending panel discussions with TV shows and movie legends to participating in immersive gaming tournaments and captivating cosplay contests, there was something for everyone. These activities provided entertainment and created opportunities for fans to learn, interact, and engage within the GalaxyCon Columbus community. This year’s event added All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Live, giving fans an overall unique experience of a lifetime.
Meeting and greeting iconic figures in the television and movie industry was one of the highlights of this year’s Galaxy. Despite the long lines, fans said they were thrilled to meet Hayden Christensen from the Star Wars movie series and other iconic figures from pop culture.
With over 30,000 attendees last year, GalaxyCon Columbus organizers did plan to have a massive success. And the best part? It will only get bigger and better for this pop culture phenomenon, with expectations to triple each year. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of sci-fi, comics, or gaming or just looking for a fun and unique experience, remember that GalaxyCon Columbus is the place to be.
Celebrities and attendees can explore the city of Columbus and its surrounding areas when not attending the Galaxycon. Columbus does have a vibrant arts and culture scene, scenic outdoors, and a thriving food and drink scene. Some popular attractions include the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Powell, the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens on Broad Street near Downtown Columbus, and the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in the Downtown area.
The miniature cities and towns, such as Dublin, Worthington, and Grove City, offer unique charm and attractions. From outdoor pursuits like hiking and biking in twenty Columbus & Franklin County Metro Parks to all of the cultural attractions like Columbus Museums of Arts museums and other galleries, there’s always something for everyone in Columbus and its surrounding areas.
Start planning for an unforgettable experience as GalaxyCon Columbus will return next year, December 5-7, 2025. Whether you’re a first-time attendee or a returning fan, it is an experience that will leave fans feeling inspired and excited to come back!
