On December 1, 2024, Equitas Health presented the highly anticipated third-annual Shades of Red Fashion Show at the Columbus Museum of Art, a significant event commemorating World AIDS Day and elevating health awareness and community support.
Sawaun Blakely, Volunteer Manager at Equitas Health, served as the creative visionary behind Shades of Red, with Yolanda Harris of 10TV as one of the event’s hosts. In addition to promoting the Shades of Red Fashion Show, Blakely underscores that Equitas Health offers a comprehensive range of services, including complimentary HIV/AIDS and STI/STD testing, primary care, dental services, mental health and recovery support, a community pharmacy, and much more.
The Museum will be transformed into a vibrant and enchanting space, adorned with various shades of red—the official color of World AIDS Day—symbolizing the ongoing struggle against this global health crisis.
This captivating event will not only showcase exquisite and thought-provoking art but also serve as a poignant reminder of the profound impact of HIV/AIDS on individuals and communities worldwide.
Through this artistic metamorphosis, Equitas Health, in collaboration with the Columbus Museum of Art, seeks to elevate awareness of this critical cause and inspire collective action in the fight against the HIV epidemic. Attendees will immerse themselves in an atmosphere brimming with boldness, passion, heart, and communal love, epitomized by the red ribbons that honor both those lost and those living with HIV/AIDS.
According to a report from HIV.gov and data from the CDC, the African American community, which comprises 12% of the total U.S. population, accounted for a staggering 37% of HIV cases, translating to approximately 11,900 cases out of the 31,800 reported in 2022.
In this context, supporting community health is paramount to the mission of the Shades of Red Fashion Show. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit Brothers in Unity, providing essential health resources, education, and support for men of color. Services offered encompass HIV/STI testing, health workshops, community outreach, and support groups.
The proceeds from this elegant gathering will not only strengthen connections within local communities but also have a direct impact on the lives of Black and Latinx members. The event promises an unforgettable evening featuring a stunning fashion show, live music, and the brilliance of local art, all aimed at uniting and empowering the Central Ohio community.
Blakely warmly invites the community to participate in this noble endeavor by registering to attend Shades of Red or by contributing to Brothers in Unity. Your participation and every dollar raised will fortify Equitas Health’s mission to eradicate the HIV epidemic, making you an integral part of this important cause.
