Columbus, Ohio resident Thelma Mae Scott marked a major milestone on Friday, November 8, as she turned 101 years old.
“I’m blessed beyond words. To be loved by my family is indescribable. I’m grateful to God for this life, my family’s support and their accomplishments. I’m truly favored and happy,” said Great grandma Thelma Mae Scott on attaining 101 years on earth.
A Life of Love, Resilience, and Faith
Born on November 8, 1923, in Detroit, Michigan, Thelma’s life is a testament to the power of love, strength, and devotion. Her parents, Faye and Retha Wethington, migrated from Mississippi to escape segregation and Jim Crow laws.
Early Life and Legacy
Despite growing up with modest means, Thelma’s family was rich in faith, love, and unity. She worked in the public school system for 35 years, managing the cafeteria and finding joy in feeding children.
Enduring Friendships and Love
Thelma’s 70-year friendship with Getrude, forged at 13, is a shining example of her capacity for love. Together, they explored jazz clubs, shared laughter, and created lifelong memories. Her marriage to David Scott yielded three accomplished daughters, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
