Zora’s House, a Central Ohio nonprofit providing women of color and gender-expansive people of color with the space, skills, and strategic connections they need to thrive both personally and professionally has opened a 3-storey building on 1393 N. 4th Street, Columbus, Ohio.
Founded in 2018 by LC Johnson, who is also the CEO, Zora’s House offers women of color and gender-expansive people of color access to space, skill-building and strategic connections.
In July 2022, Zora’s House launched an expansion project, raising $6M to build the new 10,000 SF building as its Weinland Park Community Hub with Marker Construction. Moody Nolan was the architect of record.
The three-story space is showcasing new interiors, café, office spaces, retreat spaces, and creative workshop and programming space with staged business owners in action networking.
“Formerly the site of the D&J Carryout known to be a neighborhood nuisance, Zora’s House has now transformed the property once unsafe for women of color into a literal safe haven for their leadership and wellbeing,” said CEO LC Johnson.
“The Zora’s House new facility is one of the largest developments in the Midwest owned by a Black-woman-founded organization. The expanded facilities and programming for innovation, empowerment and economic recovery are unlike any other resource in the Midwest.”
The nonprofit offers weekly events for connecting women to the opportunities, mentorship, technical assistance and personal resources needed to thrive as business owners, creatives, and leaders.
