In a historic move, a public figure in the Ghanaian community of Central Ohio, Barima Twumasi Bekoe II, President of the Traditional House of Ghanaian Chiefs in Columbus, declared the second Saturday in August as Ghana Day in Ohio. This announcement was made during the 21st annual GhanapicOhio event on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Maloney Park in Columbus, Ohio.
The vibrant gathering, themed “Heritage to Horizon – 21 Years Strong,” brought together over 5,000 attendees from diverse Ghanaian communities, churches, associations, businesses, families, and friends. The event featured nine hosting churches, 11 hosting associations, seven sponsoring companies, and 30 local/start-up vendors.
In his farewell speech, Barima Twumasi Bekoe II expressed gratitude to the servant leaders who have made GhanapicOhio a success, including Elder Kwabena Boamah-Acheampong, Madam Cynthia Engmann, and Rev. Patrick Amoah.
