Central Ohio nonprofit, ETSS Tewahedo Social Services will hold its Annual Youth Summit on Friday, August 9, 2024, at OSU-COTC campus, 1179 University Drive, Newark, Ohio.
The 2024 event is expected to bring together over 700 at-risk immigrant and refugee youth from grades K to 12 across 14 sites in Franklin and Licking Counties to celebrate their rich cultural diversity and youth empowerment.
Highlights at the Youth Summit include cultural performances, educational workshops, and a soccer tournament, all designed to foster teamwork, leadership, and cultural exchange.
“This year’s summit is especially significant as ETSS Tewahedo Social Services operates the second largest youth program in Central Ohio, serving over 700 youths,” said Sarah Huffman, Assistant Director of Youth Programs.
“This event marks the culmination of our summer activities, providing a platform for the youth to showcase their talents and share their experiences.”
The Youth Summit aims to:
- Identify the interests, concerns, and issues faced by New American youth.
- Inspire youth to become advocates for change in their schools and communities.
- Empower youth to break gender, racial, language, and cultural barriers.
- Connect youth with community organizations, service providers, colleges, universities, employers, and other resources.
- Provide educational and leadership opportunities that encourage youth to achieve their highest goals and potential.
