Leah Bertrand, a talented senior track and field athlete at Ohio State, is on the cusp of international stardom as she prepares to represent her native Trinidad and Tobago at the 2024 Paris Olympics. With a stellar collegiate career and impressive international experience, Bertrand is poised to make a name for herself on the world stage.
Bertrand’s Olympic journey began with a strong third-place finish in Heat 6 of the 100 meters, securing a spot in Saturday’s semi-finals with a time of 11.27. She will face stiff competition from top athletes like Sha’Carri Richardson, Julien Alfred, and Daryll Neita, but her determination and hard work have prepared her for this moment.
Throughout her time at Ohio State, Bertrand has accumulated an impressive list of accolades, including multiple USTFCCCA All-American honors, Big Ten Championships, and program records. Her achievements on the track are a testament to her dedication and hard work.
Bertrand’s international debut at the 2022 Caribbean Games (U23) in Guadeloupe, France, marked the beginning of her successful international career. She won gold in the 4x100m relay and silver in the 100m, and subsequent performances at the 2023 NACAC U23 Championships solidified her position as a confident and capable athlete.
Bertrand will compete in the 100m relay and women’s 4x100m relay events at the Paris Olympics, representing Trinidad and Tobago alongside 12 other athletes. With her sights set on winning gold in the relay event, Bertrand is determined to make a noteworthy contribution to her country’s medal count.
