The Oganiru Ndi Igbo, Columbus, Ohio will host the 2024 Iri-ji (New Yam) Festival on Saturday, August 31, at the Our Lady of Miraculous Medal, 5225 Refugee Road, Columbus beginning from 3p.m.
“The Iri-ji (New Yam) Festival holds special significance in our culture. It symbolizes abundance, prosperity, and thanksgiving,” said Spokesperson Peter Egwudo.
“It is a time when we come together as a community to give thanks for a bountiful harvest and to pray for continued success and prosperity in the coming year.”
According to him, “the festival will feature traditional ceremonies, cultural performances, music, dance, and delicious traditional dishes made from newly harvested yams.”
“It promises to be a day filled with joy, laughter, and the warmth of our community spirit, as we celebrate our rich cultural heritage.”
