Former President Donald Trump was formally nominated the Republican Party Presidential Candidate in the November 5, 2024, United States General Election, at the Republican Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as he picked Ohio Senator James David Vance as running mate.
A Republican Presidential candidate is only expected to receive 1,251 majority of the 2,426 delegates’ votes to get the party’s nomination which former President Donald Trump attained while most of the states delegate votes were still being announced.
As the counting was on, the news of the Vice Presidential pick, Senator JD Vance was broken to the media.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, who was at the Republican Convention, congratulated Ohio’s Senator J.D. Vance on being chosen by President Trump to be his running mate.
“J.D. is a father, military veteran, best-selling author, and has served Ohio well as our U.S. Senator. In addition, J.D.’s unique life story will resonate with Republicans and Independent voters across the country.
“J.D. will also bring a new generational perspective to the ticket.”
“A son of Middletown, Ohio, J.D. can relate to the many Americans who are struggling right now to make ends meet in this era of crushing inflation, and a housing market that is unaffordable and shutting many out of a chance at achieving the American dream.
“J.D. also knows that securing our border is imperative.
“President Trump has made a great choice and Senator Vance will be a great partner as they campaign together this fall.”
While responding, the Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said “J.D. Vance is a perfect pick – tough, smart and high-energy. He knows what it’s like to have to fight, what it’s like to win, and what it’s like to serve.”
In his response,
The Ohio Chamber CEO Steve Stivers said, “We were pleased today to learn that former President Trump has named Senator Vance as his running mate. Before his time in the U.S. Senate, Vance had a wide-ranging background that included serving our nation in the Iraq War as a Marine, being a best-selling author and owning a business dedicated to growing jobs and the economy. While in the Senate, Vance has served Ohioans by focusing on issues important to the state, such as introducing legislation to fund East Palestine health testing.
“Ohio has been an important player for over 100 years for presidential candidates on the road to the White House and today’s announcement shows that still holds true.
“It is smart to have the Republican Vice-Presidential Nominee born and raised in our great state, with an understanding of the issues that are important to Ohio and our business community. “
