The Ohio Municipal League, OML has announced the appointment of Columbus City Councilmember Emmanuel V. Remy to its Board of Trustees.
The board is OML’s top governing body, consisting of 24 members who serve in various municipal positions and represent communities in every area of the state.
“The relationship between Ohio’s state and municipal governments is very important in ensuring that communities can continue to deliver needed public services and a higher quality of life for their residents,” Remy said.
“I’m excited to take on the role of trustee for the Ohio Municipal League and to further strengthen the league’s work of enacting good public policy at the state level that can benefit us at the local level.”
Remy has been a member of Columbus City Council since 2018, where he currently serves as chair of the city’s Public Safety and Criminal Justice Committee, as well as vice chair of the Public Utilities and Sustainability Committee.
In addition to his leadership role at OML, Remy is a member of the Board of Directors for the National League of Cities, OML’s partners in advocating for municipalities at the federal level.
“We’re thrilled to have Councilmember Remy on board to further guide the Ohio Municipal League as an organization,” OML Executive Director Kent Scarrett said.
“His broad experience will be beneficial as we make thoughtful decisions on state-level legislation and continue to educate state lawmakers about the important work carried out every day by Ohio’s cities and villages.”
OML serves as the primary connection point between municipal and state government in Ohio, representing the interests of cities and villages to state lawmakers and the governor’s administration. OML effectively advocates for its member municipalities, inspires and informs on best practices, and works alongside government, business, non-profit, and educational leaders – all of whom are important partners in creating stronger Ohio communities.
Councilmember Remy’s appointment as a trustee took place during the board’s regularly scheduled meeting on June 28, 2024.
