Mount Carmel Health System announced in May of 2024 the appointment of Tauana McDonald as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, making her the first African American woman to hold this position in the organization’s 138-year history.

Tauana McDonald is a trailblazing leader breaking barrier in the healthcare industry. On July 1, 2024, she will officially start her new role at Mount Carmel Hospital, a prominent healthcare system in the Central Ohio area. Her remarkable achievements inspire, illustrating that dedicated effort and perseverance can lead to extraordinary success and pave the way for future generations.

With a solid educational foundation, Tauana McDonald earned her bachelor’s degree in human biology from Stanford University and her master’s in healthcare administration and management from the University of Michigan. Her extensive experience, including her tenure at Trinity Health, which oversees Mount Carmel Health System and has 22 medical facilities throughout the United States further solidify her suitability for this role. But before Trinity Health, she was with IBM for six years.

Tauana brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having served in multiple leadership positions, including Mount Carmel Grove City’s president and chief operating officer. Her dedication to excellence and values-driven approach has been instrumental in transforming the health system, particularly during periods of stabilization and growth. Her past contributions underscore her potential to drive positive change and enhance the system’s performance.
