A team of US Karate clubs, including Ohio based karate clubs, Diska and Imska won combined eight medals in their first international tournament, the 51 International Karate Tournament, Trbovlje Open 2023, in Slovenia on December 2, 2023.
Twelve competitors from Diska and one from Imska participated in the international karate competition.
Participants in the Diska Karate Cub won a total of eight medals including two gold, five silver and a bronze.
Varnan Mangar won 1 gold and 1 bronze in Kumute Kata and Namsahang Rai won 1 gold in Kumute. Similarly, Rehan Pandak won 1 Gold in Kumute, Ayus Tamang 1 and 1 in Kumute Kata. Kashya Bandan Rai Kumute has 1 Kashya and Prelisa Adhikari Kumute won 1 Kashya.
Team manager Sensin Tech Nepal described the game as very good. “We learned a lot from the European game, we learned technical things from there and the future path should be taken in a slightly different way”.
Members of the American team IMSKA-DISKA USA, who played in the international karate tournament “TRBOVLJE Open 2023” visited the President of Karate Club Trbovlje, Bogdan Simerl and shared ways of supporting the games.
The competitors included Kinjal Dulal, Rehan pandak, Aayus Tamang, Prelisa Adhikari, Jestina Monger, Varnan Monger, Namsahang Rai, Praman Subba, Roja Tamang, Anjila Gurung, Bandana Rai and Wince Monger.
This year 403 competitors took part in 524 appearances in kata and sport fights. Competitors came from 59 clubs from eight countries.
At the official opening of the tournament, all those present were greeted by the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Trbovlje Vesna Jesih, President of the Karate Association of Slovenia Borut Strojin and President of the home club Bogdan Simerl.
