The inaugural Juneteenth Community Parade will be held on Monday, June 19, 2023, at the Linden area in Columbus, Ohio from 10am to 1pm, with the take off at Hudson Avenue, Linden.
The parade, which is expected to bring together people in the community, elected officials and friends of the community will celebrate the freedom, growth, culture, and development in the Linden area.
“We welcome everyone to our inaugural Juneteenth Parade and community celebration. And we encourage those coming to come with their own signs, posters, and T-Shirts featuring iconic African Americans,” said Mayo Makinde of the Makinde Foundation/ Juneteenth Parade Committee.
Juneteenth held every June 19th has been celebrated by African American communities across the country for more than 150 years before it became a federal and state holiday in 2021, marking the notification of enslaved people in Texas of the Emancipation Proclamation on June 19, 1865.
Awareness and appreciation for Juneteenth is growing across the U.S. and beyond, as people of all races and ethnicities recognize the wonderful opportunity to come together in appreciation, reconciliation, and commemoration.
